Chairman John Boozman praised the Senate’s confirmation of several key nominees reported favorably by the Agriculture Committee, including Michael Selig as Chairman and Commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and three senior officials at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Boozman highlighted Selig’s role in guiding the CFTC through a period of expanded authority, particularly in the area of digital commodities. He expressed confidence in Selig’s leadership as the agency takes on new regulatory responsibilities.
The Chairman also welcomed the confirmation of Dr. Mindy Brashears as Under Secretary of Food Safety, The Honorable Stella Yvette Herrell as Assistant Secretary for Congressional Affairs and External Relations, and John Walk as Inspector General. Boozman noted that the Senate has confirmed a historic number of USDA officials this year and emphasized the importance of collaboration to support farmers and rural communities.
